AMGSU celebrates Bhanu Jayanti

KANGPOKPI, Jul 15: The Gorkha students in the state celebrated Bhanu Jayanti under the aegis of All Manipur Gorkha Students’ Union Manipur at its office at Kanglatongbi yesterday to pay homage to the universal poet Bhanu Bhakta Acharya.
All units of AMGSU also took part in the event where Bhanu Bhakta Acharya, who translated the Ramayana into Nepali language and wrote many poems and introduced the Nepali language which the entire Gorkha/Nepali people were speaking today, was fondly remembered.
Prominent Nepali poet, Devi Prasad Thapa attended the 205th birth anniversary of Bhanu Bhakta Acharya organized by AMGSU as chief guest while Rudra Thapa and Sunil Goutam, AMGSU vice-president attended as guest of honour and functional president respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, Devi Prasad Thapa alias Mama said that Bhanu Bhakta Acharya was not only a universal poet but also a great teacher and a scholar and every Gorkha/Nepali people must be proud of his great achievements.
AMGSU vice-president, Sunil Goutam stressed on the importance of learning language and the need to inculcate reading habit among Gorkha children while addressing the gathering.
Paying homage, lighting candles, floral tributes to the photo of the poet marked the event.
