Sports material distributed under Samagra Shiksha Mission

Imphal, Jul 17 : Under the initiative of Education Minister, Thokchom Radheshyam, sports equipment were handed over to the zonal and district officials of the Directorate of Education - School, Manipur during the Sports Material Distribution Ceremony organised by State Mission of Samagra Shiksha, Manipur held at Samagra Shiksha, State Implementing Society (SS, SIS) Office Babupara Imphal.
The Minister stated that good health enhances the ability in children in becoming more effective in learning and development process. He added that education imparted to the children need a holistic approach to encourage and make the learning teaching-process more appealing. Recognising the significance, sports and physical education has been made an integral part of the new education policy under the Samagra Shiksha sports.
Sports will help the student learn to work as a team, encouraging their collaboration and communication among themselves. He said that the equipment that are being distributed today are meant for the children. He appealed to the gathering to make maximum utilization of the sports equipment and educational aid. He also suggested that the equipment provided to the schools can be utilized among the local youths so that the item does not remain unused.
Th. Radheshyam highlighted that Samagra Shiksha is an integrated scheme for School Education-bringing under one umbrella the three Centrally Sponsored Schemes of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) and Teacher Education (TE). The scheme will cover from pre-school to senior secondary level and aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education at all levels, he added. He also mentioned that the grant for sports equipment is at the rate of 5,000 for Primary Schools and Rs. 10,000 for upper primary schools.
 During the ceremony, science kits, white boards and library books approved by the Project Approval Board (PAB), MHRD, New Delhi, were distributed to 18 government secondary schools of the State during today’s Sports Material Distribution Ceremony. It was also announced that 386 schools will be provided with sports kits, 100 schools will have Mathematical kits, 100 schools with science kits, 397 schools with white boards and 393 schools with library books.
The programme was attended by Joint Secretary Education (S) L. Nandakumar Singh; Chairman, COHSEM, Manipur, L Mahendra Singh, Addl Director Education (S/H) Lerte Hmangte Kom, Addl Director Education (S/V) Ch Sachi, officials of Directorate of Education - School, ZEOs and teachers.
