Manipur Badminton Association hoping to produce Olympian : Joykumar

IMPHAL, Jul 19 : Manipur Badminton Association is expecting to produce Olympian within 2024 and 2028, said the president of the association, Y Joykumar Singh in a press meet held ahead of the All India Sub-Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament 2019, at Indoor Hall, Khuman Lampak today. The tournament which will be held from July 21 to 27 at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex will be first of its kind hosted by Manipur Badminton Association.
In the presser which was also attended by general secretary of Manipur Badminton Association, N Shyamkumar Singh and treasurer, K Jayenta, Joykumar maintained that the tournament will be a very crucial tournament for the State shuttlers as those who did well in the said tournament would be eligible for representing the National team at higher events. He also informed that a total of 1985 athletes (U-15 and U-17) from across India made their entries to take part in the said tournament which will consist of two tier, qualifying and final round. Out of these entries, we will be witnessing 35 U-15 and 34 U-17 shuttlers from the State taking part in it, he said.
The qualifying round will be held from July 21 to 23 before the final round ensued, he added while informing the necessary arrangement and preparation for the tournament is completed. Taking cognizance of the growing number of badminton trainees in various academies, Joykumar said that it a huge development and further expressed happiness and proud over the recent achievements of young shuttlers from the State at the National and International events.
Looking at the pace of the development within such a short period,  he reiterated that the State will surely be able to produce quality players that could shine at the Olympics in the near future.
