5th Hill Districts' Sports Meet: Ukhrul to meet Chandel in women’s volleyball final; CCpur set up final date with Ukhrul in Men’s football

KANGPOKPI, Jul 5: DSA Ukhrul shone at the ongoing 5th Inter Hill Districts Sports Meet, 2019 at Kangpokpi DHQs as both teams (men’s football and women’s volleyball) cruised in the final today while DSA Churachandpur and DSA Chandel also cruised into the final in men’s football and women’s volleyball respectively.
In women’s volleyball semi-final matches played this morning at Brig M Thomas Ground, DSA Chandel maintained its unbeaten record by defeating the host district DSA Sadar Hills in two straight set to make the cut in the final round.
In the second semi-final match, DSA Senapati being the defending champion gave every effort to retain its prestige of women’s volleyball champion but DSA Ukhrul defeated the defending champion and maintained its unbeaten record after a hard fought battle and cruised into the final round.
DSA Senapati women volleyball players despite of their pinned sized height could be able to spike the ball from any angle jumping the 7 feet tall net which not only attracted attention of the audience but also had advantages over the skilful Ukhrul side.
Tomorrow, both the unbeaten team DSA Chandel and DSA Ukhrul will meet in the final at 8 am in the morning.
Meanwhile, even if DSA Churachandpur women could not make into the final  of women’s volleyball, the football team cruised into the men’s football final after registering an impressive 10-1 win over DSA Senapati today in the first men’s football semi final match.
Maintaining its unbeaten record DSA Churachandpur found an early goal in the 7th minute through Robinson and Lalsiem added another goal in the 17th minute before Robinson, Lamgoulun and Peter Seiminthang added a goal each in the 20th, 24th and 31st minutes respectively while DSA Senapati through its striker Vareiyang pull back a goal in the 43rd minute to end the first half 5-1.
Unfortunately, an own goal greeted DSA Senapati in the second half when Ruvei accidentally scored inside his own net in the 50th minute.  Peter Seiminthang of DSA Churachandpur then scored four goals consecutively in  57th, 75th, 86th and 88th minutes respectively and took Churachandpur side into the final with 10-1 win over DSA Senapati.
Robinson of DSA Churachandpur was awarded man of the match in the  first semifinal.
The second semi final match witnessed a goalless draw between DSA Sadar Hills and DSA Ukhrul where the referee had to decide the winner via tie break after the regulation time. In a 4-2 win over DSA Sadar Hills via tie break, DSA Ukhrul custodian Tara Gachuiwo made one brilliant save to lock horn for the champion with DSA Churachandpur.
Earlier, Tara Gachuiwo had made another brilliant save in the regulation time when DSA Sadar Hills striker Songpu failed to convert a penalty kicked in the 34th minute of the first half. In the tie break DSA Ukhrul managed to score four goals while DSA Sadar Hills could managed to score only two.
Tara Gachuiwo was declared man of the match in second semi final.
Tomorrow in the final match, DSA Churachandpur will lock horn with DSA Ukhrul for the men’s football champion title.
The closing ceremony will  be graced by Councillors of ADC Sadar Hills.
