State Subroto Mukerjee Football Tournament: Kakching Wairi High School, Springfield School make winning start

IMPHAL, Jul 6 : This years edition of State Subroto Mukerjee Football Tournament for U-14 and U-17 Boys organised by Department of Youth Affairs and Sports kicked off today respectively at Main Stadium and Practise field Khuman Lampak.
The inaugural function of the 60th edition of the State level event was graced by Bobby Waikhom, IAS, Commissioner Youth Affairs and Sports; Armstrong Pame, IAS, Director, Youth Affairs and Sports and Kh Premoda Devi, Joint Director, Youth Affairs and Sports as dignitaries.
Deputy Director YAS, Lukhochei Haokip in his welcome address during the function maintained that the winners of every age groups will be awarded Rs 50,000 and runners up will be feted with Rs 25,000 as a part of the Diamond Jubilee Celebration of the football tournament.
The chief guest of the inaugural function also received salutes by march past contingents representing different districts before the tournament was declared open.
Kakching Wairi High School which is representing  Kakching district made a brilliant start to the U-14 boys' tournament with a 13-0 demolition of Ahmadabad High School, Jiribam district as Dhanachandra and Arjun wreaked havoc across the defence line of the latter team.
The opening match of the U-17 boys competition also had the similar ending as Springfield School, Thoubal decimated Eclavia English School, Noney district by 14-0 goals.
U-14 Boys tournament
Kakching Wairi High School took off the game positively with Malemnganba hitting the opener early in the 4th minute before netting another in the 31st minute while Dhanachandra struck the second in the 8th minute before striking three more goals in the 15th, 41st and the 44th minute of the match.
Star of the match, Arjun scored his opening goal and the team's third in the 10th minute before striking 5 more goals in the 12th, 39th, 42nd, 45th and the 49th minute and set up the huge win for the Kakching district.
Johnson also added a single in the 17th minute for the Kakching side.
U-17 Boys competition
Meanwhile in the U-17 boys opener, Springfield School, Thoubal rode on goals by, G Nanao Kabui, L Jackson,  N Joysana, N Ajithkumar, Kh Arun, M Amarjit, O Ranjan and Th Premjit to thrash Eclavia English School, Noney district by 14-0 margin.
