Titular King bats for Thang-Ta as a career option for students

IMPHAL, Aug 17: The Kanglei Indigenous Art & Cultural Society (KIMACS) felicitated meritorious students who scored good marks in the Thang-Ta subject in Class X & XII examinations conducted by BOSEM and COHSEM this year.
36 students were feted during the programme held at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound, Imphal.
Speaking at the event as chief guest, Titular King Leishemba Sanajaoba said that the subject Thang-Ta encourages good discipline. He said that the inclusion of Thang-Ta as a discipline in school is a good initiative to survive and promote the art form.
Students should not take the subject (Thang-Ta) just to score some marks. The subject should is a discipline which can shape future and encourage one to understand the ancient art form. It should be treated as a career option, he said.
Thang-Ta also encourages one to avoid drug and lead healthy life, he said identifying it as a discipline to cement the cultural fabric and save the youths from engaging in various unwanted activities.
Learning the indigenous teachings and art form including Thang-Ta will teach people, especially youngsters about their origin and ensure bright future, he added.
Commenting on the various indigenous subjects which are deteriorating, the Titular King expressed serious concern over the declining population of ponies and advised Government to formulate and implement a concrete and strong policy to save them.
KIMACS president Ningthoujam Ajitkumar, Chairman COHSEM Lamabam Mahendra Singh, Manipur University Professor Paonam Gunindro and Registrar i/c Manipur University of Culture Dr Lourembam Surjit Singh also attended the  event.
