International Day of World's Indigenous Peoples

Welcoming the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee Manipur (STDCM) will be organising a function at Lamyanba Shanglen, Konung Lampak tomorrow.
A press release issued by publicity secretary, STDCM stated that the function will shed light on indigenous languages and need of Meitei/Meetei to be recognised as Scheduled Tribe.
It stated that preserving and upholding an indigenous language of a place is correlated to the survival of the indigenous people.
It maintained that it is the right of the Meiteis to be included in the ST list as per Article 342 (1) of the Indian Constitution and added that discarding this right can be levelled as violation of indigenous people.
It appealed all stakeholders to take part in the celebration of International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples.
