Heroin worth Rs 1.66 cr seized

IMPHAL, Aug 17: Thoubal district police made one of the largest haul of heroin today, with the seizure of 184.644 kgs of heroin worth Rs 1.66 crore, apart from busting a heroin manufacturing factory at Moijing Awang Leikai.
The drugs along with the materials used in the factory and the arrested persons were displayed before media persons at the Thoubal SP complex.
Briefing media persons, Thoubal SP Sarangtham Ibomcha stated that today morning, acting on specific information regarding presence of a heroin manufacturing factory at Moijing Awang Leikai, near the local community hall, a team of Thoubal district police, assisted by members of ANJUMAN Lilong, cordoned and raided the factory which was being operated at the residence of one Moijingmayum Md Muhammed (41) s/o Md. Abdul Rashid alias Mani.
During the raid, the police were able to seize 8 plastic sacks of suspected heroin/brown sugar, 580 gms of suspected heroin/brown sugar packed in a black polythene bag, 74.9 grams of suspected heroin/brown sugar paste, 35.3 kgs of chemicals labelled as Star Brand Lime, 3 plastic bottles labelled as Himedia, 1 kg of Ammonium Chloride, a wooden pressing board machine, a metal clamp machine, three plastic drums, a large aluminium tub, two plastic tubs, a rubber hand glove, a gas stove and four pieces of cloth
The SP further informed that the owner of the factory, Moijingmayum Md Muhammed has been arrested and a case has been registered against him at Thoubal PS for taking up necessary actions under the ND&PS Act.
The drugs/powders seized today were analysed by a State forensic science team and they turned out to be heroin, the SP said, adding that the drug seized by Thoubal district police today is worth more than Rs 1.66 crore.
It may be mentioned that the quantity of drug seized by Thoubal district police today is more than the quantity of drug seized by NAB while busting a heroin manufacturing factory at Lilong Dam on June 29 this year in which 111.915 kgs of heroin were seized.
