3rd President Gold Cup Hockey tournament for U-14 Boys and U-17 Girls begins

IMPHAL, Aug 18 : The 3rd Edition of President Gold Cup U-14 Boys and U-17 Girls Hockey Tournament 2019 kicked off today at Khuman Lampak Hockey Stadium under the aegis of Manipur Hockey. 7 boys team clubbed into 2 pools and 4 girls teams are taking part in this tournament.
The day witnessed Bishnupur U-14 boys and U-17 girls register win besides Ideal, Tera sealing a landslide 6-0 win against YCCIC in the U-17 girls competition.
Boys
In the boys' pool A opener, Bishnupur Hockey (BH) had a comfortable 7-0 win over MEIRAA, Bashikhong. The opening goal for Bishnupur side  came in the 13th minute (1st quarter) off a penalty corner converted by Th Bikramjit who also went on to pump in three more goals latter on.
BH then extended the lead to 4-0 in the 2nd quarter as S Rohit, captain of the team, doubled the lead in 17th minute before Bikramjit fired in two successive goals in the 19th and 23rd minutes.
S Rohit then quickfired two goals in the 37th and 41st minutes  to compete his treble while Bikramjit netted his fourth in the 46th minute to complete the 7-0 rout of the Bashikong side.
Girls
The opening match of the girls competition saw Bishnupur Hockey earn a 3-0 win against MEIRAA, Bashikhong. The match could not really create a spark as Bishnupur Hockey managed to add one goal each in the first three quarters to determine the fate of the game. M Rojiya struck the opener in the 3rd minute while Th Dainali scored the second off a penalty corner in the 14th minute before completing her double in the 28th minute.
Meanwhile Ideal, Tera had a landslide 6-0 win against YCCIC, Kontha Ahallup latter in the second match of the same competition.
T Ayingbi led the scoring for the Ideal with three goals (7', 29', 54') in her name including the opener while L Ritu scored twice (14', 25') to ensure the huge win.
Sh Tanu contributed the other goal for the team in the 47th minute of the match as the Ahallup side could not make an attack of note.
