Pineapple fest on Aug 23

IMPHAL, Aug 19: A one-day pineapple festival will be held at Khoushabung, Chura-chandpur district on August 23 under the aegis of the Manipur Pineapple Festival Committee.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, Manipur Pineapple Festival Committee chief organiser Serto Kom said that Governor Dr Najma Heptulla will grace the festival.
The 12th pineapple festival would also feature distribution of awards to farmers and dance and music programmes, Serto said.
However, no beauty contest would be held this year  in solidarity with the mysterious death of Ningthoujam Babysana, he said.
There would be around 60 stalls which would be visited by experts from CAU and ICAR.
The top three winners of the pineapple contest would be awarded cash incentives of Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively, Serto said.
