IMPHAL, Aug 19 : Social Welfare Department, Joint Director Bantee Singh Konthoujam has conveyed that necessary proposal has been made to the State Government regarding the establishment of a separate directorate for the welfare of differently abled persons in the State.
He made this statement as the chief guest of the 13th foundation day of Disabled Development Association Manipur (DDAM) at Oinam Sawombung Awang Leikai yesterday.
He stated that Social Welfare Department has been set up to serve the purpose of providing different welfare initiatives to the people.
These welfare initiatives are extended to differently abled people as well. However, they often face many inconveniences while availing these initiatives from the Directorate or the Department.
In order to avoid such hindrances, the proposal was put up to open a separate directorate for PwDs, Bantee maintained.
DDAM advisor as well as Public Hospital founder Md Wahajuddin and Associate Prof of Geography, Manipur College Dr Janatun Begun attended the function as president and guest of honour respectively.
A felicitation ceremony was also held for players who took part in the 5th National Wheelchair Basketball Championship 2019 held at Mohali, Punjab as part of the function. A free health camp was organised as well.
