President Gold Cup Hockey: Ideal girls seal final berth; HW, HWC victorious in boys competition

IMPHAL, Aug 19 : U-17 girls team of Ideal, Tera Bazar trounced MEIRAA, Bashikhong 12-0 today to register their second win and ensure a place in the girls final at the 3rd President Gold Cup Hockey Tournament for U-14 boys and U-17 girls, being organised by Manipur Hockey at Khuman Lampak Hockey Stadium.
Ideal which thumped YCCIC, Kontha yesterday by 6-0 goals continued their fine form to power past the Bashikhong side by 12-0 margin today and guaranteed their place in the final. L Ritu and T Niha shared three goals each in this one side match while N Deena struck two goals to ensure the huge win.
The Tera side started the game aggressively and broke the deadlock in the opening minute itself from the stick of Silvia Chanu while T Niha carried forward the onslaught and found the team's second goal in the 5th minute of the match. L Ritu then fired in two goals back to back in the 13th and the 14th minute to make it 4-0 in the first quarter before she completed her hat-trick in the 34th minute as the neither team found the target in the second quarter.
Angom Sana then struck the 6th goal in the 42nd minute while T Niha struck her second goal two minutes latter before rounding off the scoring in the 57th minute.
N Deena scored in the 53rd and the 56th minutes Ideal continued to mount pressure on the hapless MEIRAA. T Ayingbi (55') and Sh Tanu (59') also managed a one goal each for Ideal and gave MEIRAA a knock-out blow.
Meanwhile in the U-14 boys competition, Hockey Union (HU) Lairikyengbam Leikai opened up their Pool B account with a 4-1 win against SEYO, Singjamei before HWC, Langthabal drubbed KHSC by 8-0 margin in a Pool A league match.
HU started slowly and led the first quarter 1-0 with the help of S Nerash in the 6th minute who also banged in another goal in the 37th minute of the match, while the second goal came up in the 15th minute when N Sanaton converted a penalty corner.
SEYO managed to pull back a goal in the 18th minute through S Chalamba but the team had to contend with the goal as they failed to made a comeback while HU managed 2 goals latter on. The other goal of HU was scored by S Neetil in the 39th minute of the match.
Elsewhere in the boys second match, Bikram took the centre-stage as he scored thrice (2', 31', 58') for HWC after Nitinkanta hit the opener in the opening match. Samson scored twice in this match including a penalty corner in the 20th and the 43rd minutes while his compatriot Nelson made up the remaining two goals with beautiful strokes in the 39th and the 57th minutes.
