If there is something that distinctly stands out as a unique expression of human existence, it has to be constant pursuit of Happiness. The whole of humanity is driven by this single most empowering desire to find happiness.Everything we have achieved and lost is probably because of this endeavor. Everybody is searching most of the time, what we are searching seem to be very close and yet always beyond our reach. Only when we have lived long enough, we really understand that what we are searching for will always be out of reach; the very nature of our searching and desiring put things at an unreachable distance. There is no other greater cause of worry, frustration and anxiety than being extremely close to achieving something and always missing it, that is why we suffer. We suffer because we are too far away from what we want and we can’t seem to get it. We suffer because everything is just at a grasping distance and yet when we stretch our hands out to grab it, it moves away. We are suffering our own intelligence and imagination. Imagination is so powerful that it can generate new thoughts patterns and desires at a much faster pace than we can ever imagine of achieving all of them. To understand this constant imaginative nature of our mind is probably the most important knowledge one has to possess in order to understand and find happiness.
We have to recognize that our ability to create desire will always keep us in a constant state of worry. The majority act of resentment when we feel we are not being given our deal, we want to mistreat the people who are not giving enough importance. This is sign of immaturity and childishness. It is also very negative way of behaving. The best way to deal with people is to give to them more respect than they deserve, because it prevents them from acting peevish. We are all slaves of our emotions. In fact, they can be valuable assets when used in the right manner. Anger is one of the most destructive emotions and can cause depression and high blood pressure. It may cause you display passive aggressiveness behavior or to constantly act moody.
We are most unhappy when our relationships are going through rough weather. We stress ourselves to overcome this rough weather. In the process blame and criticism pop up before us as part of the solution process. Eventually, if we were to curb our criticism of others, we could definitely have a better relationship with everyone around us. Most of us dislike criticism. We only want to listen to good things about us and we do not like people pointing out our mistakes or weaknesses. Critics have job to perform. They give us guidance and tell us where we failed so that we can work on those shortcomings and strives for perfection. It is not that to accept the malicious criticism of jealous person but constructive criticism is a kind of helpful, so, to be more happy, use criticism to improve and grow.
One of the assets to happiness is to develop a sense of contentment. Contentment is a quality possessed by very few in this world of widespread discontentment we are never contented. When we have a few thousand rupees, we want lakhs, when we have lakhs, we want millions, than billions and so on – learning to be contended with our lot is a big step towards happiness. Life is what we perceive it to be. Happiness is about your attitude towards life. There is no one in the world who does not face adversities. Happiness is about noticing the silver lining in the grey clouds. It is about looking at the brighter side of things. The beauty of life is its unpredictable nature.
There would be no fun in living if there were no ups and downs. The regular challenges make life more interesting. To give up and cry is not the way to handle situations that demand our intelligence. Sometimes the solutions is so simple that we kick ourselves for not having thought about it earlier. Happiness is not the result our actions, it is rather the foundation of everything we do. Only when recognize that happiness is an instant state, we can generate within ourselves, irrespective of our external environment, we can attain to Happiness. To be happy for no reason is the only happiness we can truly experience
“Happiness cannot be travelled to, owned, Earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude” -Denis Waitley.
