Centre okays Imphal-Mandalay flight service

IMPHAL, Aug 19: Apart from giving his approval to the introduction of international flight service between Imphal and Mandalay, Union Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has asked the State Government to talk with airlines which are interested in operating Imphal-Mandalay flight service.
The Union Minister gave the okay during a video conference with Chief Secretary Dr J Suresh Babu, Transport Commissioner M Harekrishna and officials of the department this afternoon.
During the video conference, the Union Civil Aviation Minister gave his approval to the idea of introducing Imphal-Mandalay flight service apart from asking the State officials to talk with the airlines interested in operating international flight service on the particular route.
Notably, Myanmar based private airline Air KBZ had already expressed their willingness to operate international flight service between Imphal and Mandalay.
The video conference also discussed about adding Parbung and Thanlon as new destinations for the Manipur Heli Service which would be re-launched on August 21.
As of now, Manipur Heli Service would operate from Imphal to Moreh, Imphal to Jiribam and Imphal to Tamenglong, and back.
The conference further discussed about construction of helipads at Parbung and Thanlon.
Another agenda of the meeting was introduction of flight service between Imphal and Silchar as well as introduction of Delhi-Silchar-Imphal and Delhi- Agartala- Imphal flight service once a week.
Delhi-Imphal late evening flight and return flight early next morning was another agenda of the meeting, informed a source while speaking to TSE.
