Ukhrul, Aug 20: Tangkhul Zonal Chairmen (TZC), following complaint of 'sub-standard work', conducted a spot survey on eastern and western circular road to ascertain the quality and progress of the ongoing works.
According to west chairman M Raman, the construction work was allotted to a contractor in April 2018. 'The project was sanction under State plan implemented by PWD and as per the sanction, improvement cost for 3.76 km eastern circular road is Rs 2.30 crore while that of the western is Rs 1.84 crore'.
He said the project has to be completed within 24 months.
"Even after 16 months, only about 700-800 metres in eastern circular road was found shingling and no road rollers were used for tightening the soil while remaining distance is yet to be initiate," he said.
"As per the specification, the works on both eastern and western circular road include drainage, retaining wall, culvert etc. However, nothing has been done so far," he said.
"Despite the public compliant and mounting pressure for completion of the works, the contractors concerned are circulating photos claiming work progress on social media. These photos have misled and misinformed the public," he alleged.
The authorities concerned should really focus on maintaining quality and progress of the works other than circulating photos on social media, he said.
The Public Works Department had directed all authorities  concerned to expedite the works before the Shirui Lily Festival, said the TZC.
