Cong alerts State Govt on Naga peace talk

IMPHAL, Aug 19 : Pointing out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed need to conclude the Naga peace process within three months, CLP leader and ex-CM Okram Ibobi Singh has asserted the State Government should remain alert and its leaders should keep in touch with the Central Government, specially the Minister of Home Affairs and GoI’s Interlocutor to the ongoing Naga peace talk.
He was replying to media queries in connection with the statement made by RN Ravi recently that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was keen to conclude the Naga peace process within three months.
He was replying to media persons by the sideline of a tree plantation programme at Hapta Kangjeibung which was organised as a part of the 75th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi held at Congress Bhavan, BT Road today.
Ibobi went on to note that RN Ravi and the Minister of Home Affairs are the right persons to keep in touch with by the State Government for keeping a close tab on the peace talk going on between NSCN-IM and GoI as the Interlocutor has been negotiating with the NSCN-IM directly and the Minister of Home Affairs is very much relevant to the issue.
He also said that Congress party will never accept any kind of proposal or conclusion which may affect the State’s integrity and interest either immediately or in future.
Meanwhile, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president and ex-Deputy CM Gaikhangam demanded expedition of the investigation into the mysterious death of Ningthoujam Babysana, who was allegedly found hung to death inside a dormitory of Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School at Canchipur on July 18.
Earlier while speaking at the function at Congress Bhavan the MPCC president described Rajiv Gandhi as a far-sighted and visionary Prime Minister who made tremendous contributions in taking India forward.
He highlighted that Rajiv Gandhi brought a massive development in the field of Information Technology (IT), science and technology in India as he had seen that the country will not be able to take part in the global race for development without IT.
The resultant effect of developing IT sector and science and technology has transformed Indian society in various fields, including telecommunications and education.
The late former Prime Minister had also decentralized power to Panchayat level/village level apart from making economic reforms through economic liberalisation.
Ibobi while speaking as the chief guest claimed that the role taken by Rajiv Gandhi during his Prime Ministership was crucial.
The ex-Chief Minister also claimed that Rajiv Gandhi worked tirelessly to bring peace in Punjab and the North East.
The two CLP leaders also led many Congress MLAs and CLP members in paying floral tributes to the portrait of Rajiv Gandhi at the premises of Congress Bhavan.
Gaikhangam also pledged that Congress MLAs, leaders and workers would always stand firm for safeguarding the country’s democracy and Constitution apart from striving collectively for betterment of the country.
MPCC which organized the event also conducted a blood donation camp at RIMS in the morning.
