IMPHAL, Aug 20: Post mortem examination of late Riyamei Chungamlu, who was found dead at her marital home at Moirang Pangsan Leikai at around 8 pm of August 17, was performed at RIMS morgue today and following the post mortem examination, tensions flared up between the husband's family and the family of the deceased as to who will claim the dead body.
Speaking to media persons, president of Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur, Nagaland) Amu Kamei said that on that fateful day, the husband's family informed Riyamei Chungamlu's family that she was found hung to death from her own bed.
When the family members of the deceased went to the spot, they reportedly found that the deceased had bruises on her body and the condition in which she supposedly hanged herself were quite suspicious. This resulted in the formation of a JAC which demanded a proper investigation into the suspicious death, he explained. Amu Kamei continued that yesterday, the JAC submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister to ensure a proper investigation into the death. The JAC also pressured Moirang police to arrest and interrogate members of the husband's family he said, adding that some of the family members were picked up by police for necessary questioning.
The JAC will not back down until justice is delivered, he added. On the other hand, tensions flared up at RIMS morgue between the two parties today while the post mortem was being conducted. The issue supposedly arose from laying claims on the dead body of Riyamei Chungamlu.
On getting news of the incident, a large number of Moirang police as well as Imphal West district police descended at the spot and brought the situation under control.
The body was later kept at RIMS morgue instead, pending necessary orders from the District Magistrate concerned.
