GUWAHATI, Aug 21
The rebel group, National Socialist Council of Nagaland- Isaak Muivah (NSCN-IM) has demanded Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to appoint a new Interlocutor for the Indo-Naga peace talks.
The demand was made after Indian President Ramnath Kovind appointed RN Ravi as the Governor of Nagaland. Ravi has also been acting as the Indian Government’s Interlocutor since 2015.
In a letter to the PM, the NSCN-IM mentioned that under no circumstances will a Governor be accepted as an Interlocutor. After the appointment of the existing Interlocutor as the Governor, the rebel group has demanded a new Interlocutor in his place.
The letter was sent to the PM by Interlocutor for NSCN-IM, Thuingaleng Muivah along with the advisor where they also reminded the Government about the promises in its Framework Agreement of 1997.
In the letter, it was further stated that after a dialogue at the PM level, the Indo-Naga political issue was taken into account by both the parties.
It is to be mentioned that the rebel outfit has expressed dissatisfaction over the meeting that was held with RN Ravi on July 26 at New Delhi.
