AGARTALA, Aug 28 : A clash erupted between two students’ groups in ICFAI university in Tripura on Tuesday morning with different versions of the incident being narrated by both sides.
While one side alleged that the clash was the result of a ragging case perpetrated by the seniors on the juniors, the other group alleged that it was due to an act of misconduct on the part of a certain group of students.
The first group had alleged that a couple of students from Nagaland and Manipur were involved in ragging their juniors, the same of which led to a clash between the two groups.
However, the other group alleged that some boys were misbehaving with girl students hailing from different parts of the North East which ultimately led to a heated argument between two groups of students.
“We are meeting with the police to sort out this problem and we will also file an FIR in this connection,” said one of the students from the group who alleged that the clash was due to an act of misconduct.
“They (seniors) used to harass us and force us to introduce ourselves which is called “ragging” and is against the law. We have complained several times to the university authorities but no action has been taken so far,” alleged a student belonging to the other group.
Meanwhile, when contacted, the SDPO Rangadulal Debbarma said that the issue is nothing but a clash of egos between seniors and juniors.
“We were here since morning and have talked with the students of 3rd year B.Tech and 4th year B.Tech and now everything is normal. No FIR has been registered as there was no physical scuffle,” he said.
He also informed that University administration has assured to take care of the matter internally.
Meanwhile, the university authorities have informed that the differences are not based on their respective States or any other features but it was simply a senior-junior ego clash. “In the last few days, a few 3rd year B.Tech students had alleged that some 4th year B. Tech students were trying to dominate them in the boys hostel,” informed the Registrar of ICFAI University, Dr A Ranganath.
He also informed that they received complaints last night that a few 4th year B.Tech students were sitting in a lobby near the entrance of the University and when few 3rd year B.Tech students came, they were allegedly asked to leave the place by the seniors and that they are not allowed to sit there. “This resulted in a verbal spat between both the 3rd year and 4th year students but the hostel administration came to the spot and solved the issue. There was no physical tussle between the students,” asserted the Registrar. Considering the gravity of the situation, the University administration had decided to suspend classes on Tuesday and held a meeting with students from both the batches. “The problem is resolved and everybody is on-board and from August 28 we will resume the classes.  “The University administration is very particular about such issues and any other news which says otherwise is baseless and nothing but rumour mongering. As far as issue of Manipur and Tripura students’ fight is concerned, the differences is not based on their State but a senior- junior ego clash”, he added.
