A Beautiful Mind

i wake up with a terrible hangover
an acute hangover
too lazy to think
too weak to move
like trying to manage a disobedient child
i control my feet
for I have a terrible thirst
i take a drink of water
a long drink of cold water
the liquid of life
they say
the most palatable drink in the world
there’s nothing more satisfying
than taking a long drink of cold water
on such nights
THE FIRST STANZA ENDS HERE
the night is past its peak
the clock strikes one
1300 hours
13 hundred hours
why is thirteen considered an unlucky number
apollo 13
the ides of march
END OF THE SECOND STANZA
a visage pops up
he always appears
in such places
in such situations
his eyes follow me about
his clear eyes
there are pictures
that have eyes
following you about
when you move
his is like that
THE LAST STANZA COMES
my mission in life is to write a poem
a poem of life
mission accomplished
not yet not yet
i have always made a conscious effort
not many words and lines come easily
when these come
the words and broken lines
are few and far between
i am like a tree
that yields no fruit
the eyes that follow you about
look at the inner man
listen to the still small voice
a word a day
a word of truth
that’s it carry on.
