Dpr ban on 'single use plastic' from Sept 18

DIMAPUR, Sep 11 : In pursuance of Government notification, the Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, Kevekha Kevin Zehol, with a view to eradicate the menace of plastic and various  environmental and ecological challenges posed by rampant use of plastic, has informed all concerned that the 'single use plastic products' will be totally banned within Dimapur district with effect from September 18, 2019.
It can be noted here that the Government of Nagaland has ordered a total ban on single use plastics from October 1, 2019.
Meanwhile, those items which will be banned are all plastic carry bags, with or without handles, irrespective of thickness and size, plastic cutlery including plates, plastic cups, straws, stirrers etc., cutlery and other decorative,  made of Styrofoam  (thermocol), polythene, nylon, poly-vinyl chloride (PVC), poly-propylene and poly-styrene.           
The Deputy Commissioner then informed all to abide by the order and defaulters will be penalized as per the provision of law.
Meanwhile, the 'single use plastic' bags are being gradually replaced by other alternatives in most of the shops in Kohima and Dimapur. 
Earlier on September 7, Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, Gregory Thejawelie issued an appeal letter stating that in view of the Government Notification Vide. No. UDD/7-GEN/07-PWM/2018 dated Kohima November 20, 2018, a District Level Task Force for Kohima district was constituted to local strategies and to spread awareness for plastic free environment.
The Government notified this policy with a view to eradicate the menace of single use plastics and the serious environment and ecological challenges posed by the rampant use of plastic. Prior to this, several meetings had also been convened in various capacities by the Kohima Municipal Council at Government level in formulating plans and strategies for plastic free environment. In view of the total ban on single use plastics with effect from October 1, 2019, the District Level Task Force has appealed to all the Government offices, institutions, shops and business establishment, schools including Churches and public to restrict single use of plastic products listed as, all plastic carry bags with or without handles, irrespective of thickness and size. Plastic cutlery including plates, plastic cups, straw, stirrers etc. Cutlery and other decoratives made of Styrofoam (Thermocol). Polythene, Nylon, Poly-Vinyl-Chloride, Poly-Propylene, Poly-Styrene.     
Government offices, event managers, Churches and institutions have also been urged to stop the use of packaged drinking water bottle below 20 litre capacities and also instal alternative like filtered water dispensers/RO plants. All Government servants have been advised to carry reusable drinking water bottles.
