Shillong, Sep 10: Residents of villages falling along the Indo–Bangladesh border in the Balat area of Meghalaya have been facing immense hardship ever since the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) started working with the Feedback Energy Distribution Cr. Ltd (FEDCO)
“Residents of the area have complained that they are getting electricity for only about 5 hours of electricity on a daily basis from 5 pm to 9:15 pm,” the general secretary of the Hynñiewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF), Border Area Circle, South West Khasi Hills district, Innocent Jyrwa said on Tuesday. He also informed that when an employee of FEDCO, Montu Bormon was consulted on this issue, he had shifted the blame to MeECL as he said, “We are also being controlled by the MeECL officials, our part in this whole affair is running smoothly.”
Slamming the officials of both MeECL and FEDCO, the HNYF leader pointed out that the people in the border areas are not paying any less for the consumption of electricity as compared to other parts of the state. “How is it that the services in this part of the state are in such a shoddy state?” Jyrwa asked.
In this backdrop, the HNYF leader has demanded the sacking of MeECl and FEDCO employees who are not able to perform their duties.
