Ukhrul, Sep 15: Sambu Raiping Long (SRL), Ukhrul has urged the authorities concerned to conduct realignment of all 'faulty' portions of PMGSY road from Shirui to Phungtha village, Ukhrul before taking up stage-II works.
Speaking to media during a press conference held at  Phungreitang,  SRL president AS Nathan said that they have resolved to ban the (Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana) PMGSY stage-II blacktopping work of the road unless the 'faulty' alignment is corrected first.
The resolution was taken during an emergency assembly of SRL, he said stating that spot verification will be conducted to identify all faulty portions.
PMGSY stage II blacktopping work from Hamlang to Chammu village was about to start when they urged the contractor concerned to stop the work.
The stage-II works will be not be allowed until the grievances and demands of the villages concerned are not addressed, he said.
Asserting that the road is not usable when it rains, he mentioned that villages under Sahamphung sub-division were disconnected with the district Headquarters during the rainy season.
Last year, a patient had to be carried on a bamboo stretcher for more than 50 kilometres from Khayang village to reach nearest Taxi point at Mapum village, Ukhrul for further evacuation to nearest health centre, he recalled.
The PMGSY road became deplorable during rainy season due absence of proper drainage,  culverts, breast wall etc apart from lack of maintenance by the authorities concerned, he said.
SRL also alleged that the Bailey bridge constructed at Nambanlog Chatric village is of 'substandard' quality and need reconstruction. Many interior villages of Ukhrul district are now joining the campaign "Save life, Not Money" denouncing 'pathetic' PMGSY (Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana)  roads.
