Awareness campaign against drugs and alcohol held at Korsantabi, Kak

Imphal, Sep 16: As part of the ongoing campaign and awareness programme against the menace of drugs and alcoholism by  Coalition Against Drugs  & Alcohol (CADA) and to wipe it out from the State, a public awareness programme on  “Negative effects of drugs and alcohols and the role of public to prevent it” jointly organized by Korsantabi Sunshine Club in association with Women Society Meira Paibi Korsantabi, Thoubal District United Women’s Development Organization (Thoubal Ima) and CADA Kakching District Committee   was held at Korsantabi Community Hall in Kakching district on September 15 at around 3 pm.
The awareness programme was attended by Ningthoujam Doren, vice-president, CADA; Moirangthem Sanatombi, secy gen, Thoubal Ima; Mayengbam Krishna, president, Sunshine Club; Seram Santa, senior citizen; Pukhrambam Babuchand, senior citizen; Laishram Angoubi; Thongam Raghu, senior citizen; Abujam Pishak, president, Tangjeng Apunba Meira Paibi and Sorokhaibam Nena, president, CADA Kakching District Committee as presidium members while Geetchandra Mangang, secy gen, CADA attended the programme as resource person.
Speaking at the occasion, resource person Geetchandra Mangang said that the first and foremost step to prevent menace of drugs is to cut-off its supplies from every angle adding that there will be no drug addicts sans suppliers.
Every efforts of the Club and Meira Paibi will not bear fruit until illicit drugs are available in plenty, he added.
He further said that it is wrong to punish and tarnish the image of the young students and teenagers who are found indulging in tablets and alcohols by the club members and meira paibis as addiction to tablets and alcohols is also kind of disease and they should be treated properly under the guidance of experts in said field.
