DIMAPUR, Sep 4 : Nagaland police personnel are keeping strict vigil at all the entry points along the Assam-Nagaland border following the release of the final National Registrar of Citizens (NRC) draft in Assam which has left out over 19 lakh people from the list. Mobile patrolling exercises in vulnerable locations in respective jurisdictions in Nagaland have also been enhanced.
All these measures came following an order from the Nagaland State Home department for preventive measures to be undertaken against the possible influx of illegal immigrants into the state, according to The Morung Express.
The order came as several organizations over the past few days have warned against possible increase in illegal immigration to the State following the publication of the National Register of Citizens in neigbhbouring Assam, the report said.
An order issued by the Nagaland State Principal Secretary, Abhijit Sinha directed that all entry points and check gates manned by the police should be suitably strengthened. It also directed mobile patrolling in vulnerable locations in respective jurisdictions.
“Non locals entering the State should not be allowed without the valid pass issued by the district administration and any unusual influx of outsiders without valid pass should be promptly brought to the knowledge of the district administration,” the order, which was issued to all district authorities, stated.
It further asked all villages, towns and municipal authorities to take measures to strictly monitor the influx of people from outside the State in violation of the existing rules/norms.
“The antecedents of any new incoming tenants should be properly checked and verified by the district administration and police,” it added.  The order, meanwhile, also directed district administration and police to strictly monitor the regulation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP), especially along the border areas, the report added.
