IMPHAL, Sep 8 : Meghalaya rode on Colinsalmon Lyngdoh double and a penalty converted by Samchaphrang Lato to thump Assam 3-0 in their opening match of the Sub-Junior National Football Championship NE Zone qualifiers at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium today.
Meghalaya which are clubbed in Group B along with Assam and Mizoram, took off their game on a high note with Colinsalmon Lyngdoh opening up the score in the 21st minute while Samchaphrang Lato cooly dispatched a spot kick in the 35th minute to make it 2-0 till the break against the lacklustre Assam.
Assam did manage to contain the Meghalaya onslaught for a better portion of the second half but could not deter Colinsalmon from scoring his second in the 78th minute. The Assamese lads struggle hard to find a face-saving goal in the latter part of the game but Meghalaya defence were at their best to deny their rivals from making any change in the scoreline.
Tripura which went down 1-3 in the hands of Manipur in the Group A opener, will meet Arunachal Pradesh in their last match tomorrow at 3 pm.
