5th Manipur Statehood Day Women's Polo Tournament starts today

IMPHAL, Jan 16: Manipur Statehood Day Women's Polo Tournament 2020 is all set to start from tomorrow at the historic Mapal Kangjeibung. A total of six women teams - USA, Great Britain, Argentina, Egypt, Indian Polo Association and Manipur will be competing in the tournament, said Tourism Director W Ibohal on the sideline of a reception ceremony held for the teams and officials at Imphal Hotel today.
It may be noted that the tournament will be organised by Manipur Tourism Department, All Manipur Polo Association and Huntre ! Equine.
Speaking to media persons, the Tourism Director said that the tournament first started in the year 2016 commemorating the Manipur Statehood day.
The tournament for the women polo players has gained more exposure over the years and is boosting the tourism sector, he said.
Incredible India of the Ministry of Tourism is sponsoring the event and US Polo Association under its Global Women's Team is sponsoring jerseys for the players and officials, he said.
All manipur Polo Association president Dr K Saratchandra, Huntre! Equine's Somi Roy, representative of Embassy of Egypt and teams captains attended the press conference.
The tournament will continue till January 21.
