3rd Khelo India Youth Games: Shandrella, Nirmala win weightlifting gold as16 State boxers reach semis

IMPHAL, Jan 18 : Shandrella Huyam and Chingkham Nirmala Devi won Manipur gold medals today in the 3rd Khelo India Youth Games which is underway in Guwahati as 16 boxers from Manipur assured themselves of medals by reaching semi-finals in their respective weight categories.
Shandrella Huyam won the gold medal in the U-17 girls 59 kg category with a total of 151 kg which include 66 kg in snatch and 85 kg in clean and jerk.
On the other hand, Chingkham Nirmala made a total effort of 174 kg (77 kg in snatch and 97 kg clean and jerk) in U-21 girls 59 kg event to win another gold in the discipline.
Kh Priyaluxmi on the other hand won a bronze medal for Manipur in the 55 kg event for U-17 girls with a combined total of 152 kg (69 kg in snatch and 83 kg in clean and jerk).
Meanwhile in the boxing events, Manipur stole the show as 16 boys and girls reach the semi-finals.
S Yaiphaba Singh (48 kg), P Kingson (52 kg), Athouba Laiphrakpam (54 kg), L Rabichandra Singh (57 kg) and N Rohit (60 kg) defeated their respective rivals in the quarter finals of the U-17 boys category while in the U-21 age category, S Victor (56 kg), L Bilotson (56 kg) and S Barun (49 kg) reached the semis.
The U-17 girls from the State to reach the semi-finals today are S Bijeta (52 kg), W Ethoibi (54 kg), H Ambeshori (57 kg), and Th Kunjaranin (60 kg) while S Rebika (51 kg), N Babyrojisana (51 kg), N Menaka (64 kg) and Sanamacha Chanu (75 kg) were in the State' U-21 girls list who made it to the semi-finals.
The boxing team are being led by Th Amitragopal as manager, M Shyamchandra and Th Jiten as coaches and I Sobita as girls' manager.
