Khelo India Youth Games: 5 State boxers reach final, Phanjoubam Roshni wins weightlifting gold

IMPHAL, Jan 19 : Manipur's 5 boxers reached the final of their respective weight and age category at the 3rd Khelo India Youth Games being hosted at Guwahati under the supervision of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports as three boxers settled for bronze medals today.
In the U-21 age category, S Victor (56 kg) and S Barun (49 kg) made it to the final and more boxers are expected to reach the final as few semi-final bouts are still left to be played.
S Barun outlasted Assam's Irfan Khan 5-0 in the first 46 kg category semi-final bout to move into the final while Soubam Victor defeated Pawan Gurung of Uttarakhand 3-2 to earn the title shot in the 56 kg category.
Naorem Babyrojisana also made it to final of the U-21 girls 51 kg class beating S Rebica Devi in an all-Manipur semi-final bout today. Sanamacha Chanu on the other hand defeated Telangana's Niharika Gonella to book the final berth in the U-21 girls 75 kg event. W Thoibi Devi also reached the U-17 girls 54 kg final.
N Menaka Devi went down 1-4 to Manisha of Haryana in a U-21 girls 64 kg semi-final bout to settle for a bronze medal after S Rebica got the same medal.
L Bilotson also claimed a bronze medal in the U-21 boys 56 kg event having suffered a 0-5 loss in the hand of Akash Kumar of Haryana in the semi-final today.
Weightlifting
After Shandrella Huyam (U-17 girls 59 kg category), Chingkham Nirmala U-21 girls 59 kg) won gold medals and Manipur's Umeshori and Kh Priyaluxmi (55 kg event for U-17 girls) earn a bronze medal yesterday, State lifters were able to win another gold medal, two silver medals and a bronze medal today.
The day saw Phanjoubam Roshni win a gold medal while Warepam Sapana Devi and Potsangbam Umeshori clinch a silver medal each. Yumnam Shilheinganbi Chanu was also able to a bronze medal each to State's tally.
 Phanjoubam Roshni won the gold medal in the junior women's 71 kg category where she finished on top with 183 kg total, 80 kg in snatch and 103 kg in clean and jerk.
Warepam Sapana meanwhile won the silver medal in the youth women's 71 kg category where she lifted 73 kg in snatch and 95 kg in clean and jerk to make it 168 kg total. Potsangbam Umeshori managed 74 kg in snatch and 101 kg in clean and jerk to finish second to win the silver medal in the youth women 64 kg event as Maharashtra's Prajkta Ravindra Khalkar finished on top with a total effort of 181 kg while Yumnam Shilheinganbi finished with 170 kg total, 76 kg in snatch and 94 kg in clean and jerk to clinch the bronze medal.
