IMPHAL, Jan 22 : As in the past years, the Co-ordination Committee (CorCom) and ULFA have jointly called a boycott of the Republic Day celebration till 6 pm of January 26.
A joint statement issued by the two outfits said that  India's Republic day is a reminder of the predicament of the people of Western South East Asia (WeSEA) and alleged that this day is a tool for deceiving the people of WeSEA to sacrifice their future and identities for India.
The ongoing movement against CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) should be an eye opener for the people of WeSEA, especially the youth, said the joint statement and added that at this juncture many questions have cropped up, such as why CAA is opposed. Are the people afraid of outsiders overwhelming them, thereby making them minorities in their own land, asked the two outfits and added that the answer lies in the fact that the people want to preserve their identities and existence as a distinct people.
Citing an example, the outfits said that a few decades back Kashmir had a huge presence of armed ‘freedom fighters’ and India needed to keep the special status to pacify them, but after they succeeded in pacifying the angry people through piecemeal solutions and as the strength of the militants seemed to diminish, they took back the special status, alleged CorCom and ULFA.
Believing that provisions or statuses like Scheduled Areas, Scheduled Tribes, ILP etc. would protect the people is a misnomer, the two outfits alleged and added that Indian Constitution can be amended again and again to suit the policies of any future Government.
India is keeping these special facilities for the time being because “we in the WeSEA have a large number of insurgents with some heavy firepower. What all these Indian leaders have been doing is to minimize the number of the armed people through deceptive solutions and if sometime in the future only a few of these armed insurgents are left all the special facilities would be taken back just like that  of Kashmir,” charged CorCom and ULFA.
It is right that the youth of WeSEA understand that there is no future in India which was amply demonstrated by the recent pathetic and docile surrender of the few MPs of WeSEA to the will of the majority in the Parliament, further alleged the two outfits.
“India has been using the carrot and stick policy to suppress WeSEA people,” said the statement and added that by using AFSPA, security forces are trying to frighten the people into meek submission so much so that in a few years the people may be afraid to even speak their own language.
The Act East policy is becoming a big joke as India withdrew from the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership which aims to integrate the markets of ASEAN, China, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand and India, said the joint statement and added that the initial euphoria was deceptive.
India which is just a little 70 years old cannot obliterate the history and the political cultures of thousands of years old Nations of Manipur (Kangleipak) and Assam, claimed the joint statement and urged the people to boycott the coming Republic Day celebration.
The shutdown will be in force from 12 am of January 25 to 6 pm of January 26. This restriction will not be applicable to emergency service.
