IMPHAL, Jan 22:  Expressing suspicion of ATM card skimming being carried out at SBI ATM booths across the State, the Cyber Crime Police Station (CCPS) has urged the Assistant General Manager of SBI, Imphal, to do the needful immediately to prevent such fraud cases.
The Additional SP (CID/CB)/OC of Cyber Crime PS, informed the AGM of SBI, Imphal that during the last few days, CCPS received 7 complaints pertaining to ATM card skimming fraud cases.
The Addl SP stated that during initial investigation, it was found that the complainants had never gone outside Manipur and their ATM cards were never used outside the State as well.
Furthermore, it was found that in all the cases, non-Manipuris were present at the ATM booths where the last withdrawal was done. As such, it is highly suspected that ATM card skimming was done at the ATM booths across the State, the official conveyed.
Pointing out the list of ATM booths where such cases are suspected, namely the SBI ATM booths at Kwakeithel Sega Road, Uripok (near NRL pump), Khurai Sajor Leikai, Canchipur MU gate, Sangakpham oil pump and High Court complex, the Additional SP urged the AGM of SBI Imphal to brief the staff properly so as to take up all possible steps to prevent and detect ATM card skimming devices in ATM booths and help the police in arresting the culprits.
The official further requested the SBI authority to ensure that all the CCTV cameras installed in all ATM booths are fully functional and that the interior of the booths are well lit.
The Additional SP also mentioned that once the time frame during which the suspected ATM card skimming took place, is established, police will seek the CCTV footages for the said period.
