IMPHAL, Jan 22: Taking strong note of the assault and harassment of a lady IPS officer posted as SDPO Yairipok, by a Rifleman of 12 Assam Rifles 9 (D-Company) at Khudengthabi check post, the Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) has assured to take up necessary legal steps at the earliest by consulting the Chief Minister (who is also in charge of Home).
Further more, the Commission has lamented that such a brazen assault reportedly carried out by the AR personnel, PK Pandey, on the lady officer in full view of other people, is an attack on her dignity and rights as a woman.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, the Commission Chairperson Dr Meinam Binota said that the lady officer came to the Commission's office on January 20 and explained all the details.
She conveyed that as per her explanation, the lady officer  and her escort party were returning from an official duty towards Imphal on January 19 when the incident took place.
The lady officer even alleged that the Rifleman, PK Pandey, even hit her on her chest, apart from threatening, assaulting and thrashing her and her escort party even after they identified themselves as police personnel.
Stating that hitting the lady officer on her chest in front of all the people, amount to molestation, Binota reasoned that if such an incident can happen to even a police officer, then there might be many similar instances involving innocent civilians who might have just decided to keep mum due to fear.
She then informed that after hearing the story of the lady officer, the Commission issued a summon to the AR personnel concerned on the same day itself directing him to be present before the Commission on January 27.
She further assured that the Commission will collaborate with the Government to take up necessary legal action against the AR personnel as well.
