IMPHAL, Jan 22: The inquiry committee, responsible for investigating the collapse  of the roof of an under construction mechanical workshop inside Bir Tikendrajit International Airport on September 18 last year, has opined that the poles used in the construction were weak leading to the accident.
An official source informed that the committee, comprising of former Chief Engineer Th Joykumar, former Chief Engineer M Loken and a MIT Associate Professor, completed their investigation and recently submitted its report to the PDA.
The report explained that the poles used during cementing the roof of the building were quite weak and moreover, the poles were not tethered firmly either.
The source continued that the report mentioned that the building was around 16 feet high and the lift used to transport cement, continuously struck/nudged against the building.
Stating that the inquiry report failed to mention specifically how the structure failed or who was/were responsible, the source informed that the construction work was handled by a firm empanelled to PDA.
It may be mentioned that 8 workers were injured in the collapse and following the incident, PDA Executive Engineer TL Muan was suspended as well.
