AR foils multiple smuggling attempts

Troops of Assam Rifles foiled three cross border smuggling attempts along the Indo-Myanmar international border near Moreh on October 26.
In three different operations carried out by the Assam Rifles, narcotics and other contrabands worth nearly Rs 48 lakh were seized and 10 smugglers including nine Myanmarese nationals were apprehended. A total of 10 motorcycles and 3 three-wheelers of foreign origin were also seized, said IGAR (S) in a statement.
Saying that 94 gms of heroin and 350 WY tablets worth approximately Rs 40 lakh were seized in an area near T’minou in the first operation and apprehended the suspected smuggler Jamkhosei Mate with a Kenbo bike, it added that 16 teak wood logs measuring 144 cubic feet worth approximately Rs 3.3 lakh were seized in the same area of T’minou in the second operation.
The statement maintained that the logs were transported in 3 modified three-wheelers and on being intercepted by Assam Rifles column, the smugglers abandoned the vehicles and escaped towards Myanmar.
In the third operation of the day, nine Myanmarese nationals on nine motorcycles were apprehended from Betuk village when they were in the process of smuggling 400 bags of rice worth approximately Rs 4 lakh into Myanmar, IGAR (S) stated.
The apprehended individuals along with recovered narcotics, contrabands and seized vehicles were handed over to Moreh Police and Customs authorities at Moreh for further legal action.
