THOUBAL, Oct 28: Demanding that the 4 percent reservation given to Meitei Pangal community should be extended to Higher Education, two student bodies, Pangal Students' Union, Dhanamanjuri University (PSU-DMU) and All Manipur Muslim Students' Organisation (AMMSO) have imposed a 48 hour general strike from midnight today.
In a video clip, AMMSO president, Pusam Javed Ahamed released, he asserted that even though there had been Government order for reservation of 4 percent seats for Meitei Pangal community, it has not been implemented in Higher Education.
Other reserved communities are getting their respective quotas in education and Government jobs, however, Meitei-Pangal community is not given the 4 per cent seats in Higher Education, he claimed.
AMMSO had submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister regarding this demand on October 26.  However, the organisation has not received any positive response from the Government till today. Hence, the 48 hour general strike has been called, he said.
Religious ceremonies, rituals, emergency services, water electricity, medical services and media will be exempted from the purview of the general strike, he said appealing CSOs, Meira Paibis and students to support their cause.
