IMPHAL, Oct 28: Ginsuanhau who has been elected from Singnat AC to the Manipur Legislative Assembly unchallenged was sworn in today.
Speaker Yumnam Khemchand administered the oath of office and secrecy to Ginsuanhau at his office at 2 pm today.
Ginsuanhau was elected to the 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly in 2017 on Congress ticket from Singnat AC.
Six Congress MLAs including Ginsuanhau resigned from the State Assembly on August 10 this year.
Taking into account the MLAs who had resigned or had been disqualified before the six Congress MLAs, altogether 14 Assembly seats were rendered vacant. However, the number of vacant seats came down to 13 after the disqualification order of the MLA representing Thanga AC was stayed by the High Court of Manipur.
Of the total 13 vacant seats, the Election Commission of India notified by-election for five Assembly seats.
Now only four Assembly segments namely; Wangoi, Lilong, Wangjing-Tentha and Saitu would go to by-polls on November 7 as Singnat AC has been already captured by BJP candidate Ginsuanhau unchallenged.
Th swearing-in ceremony of Ginsuanhau was attended by Ministers Awangbow Newmai, S Rajen, O Henry and MLA Khasim Vashum.
