IMPHAL, Oct 29
“As of yesterday, Manipur has reported 158 deaths due to COVID-19. This shows that we are in an advance stage of community transmission,” said the Peoples’ Task Force for COVID-19 in release today.
“The number of deaths reported yesterday is eight. This means that we need to take the matter very seriously,” it said.   “Why is the State Government and more particularly the Health department silent on the matter. Why there is no explanation on how eight people have died in a single day,” PTFC-19 questioned.
The Covid patients that died yesterday included patients from private hospital, Govt hospital, District hospital and Home Isolation cases. The Government should explain why are the people who are in home isolation died without coming to hospital, PTFC-19  said.
It is under the SOP that the health condition of those who are under Home Isolation should be routinely checked by a medical team. There should be an explanation on how they died, it further said.
By providing only the figures of positive and active cases is not enought there should be an explanation on the surge in infection rate and mortality rate.
Peoples’ Task Force For Covid-19 demanded the proposal they had submitted during a meeting at the CM’s Secretariat on October 22 be implemented.
PTFC-19 further demanded the resolutions taken during an “Academic Discourse” held on October 11 by representatives of Peoples’ Task Force For Covid-19, Association For Health Care Providers Of India Manipur State Chapter, Indian Red Cross Society Manipur State Branch, Indian Medical Association Manipur State Branch be implemented at the earliest.
The testing and surveillance activities should be conducted faster and more effectively.  Positive cases should be isolated and treatment should be done in a faster manner, it demanded.
The PTFC-19 volunteer have been continuously conducting COVID-19 awarness drives at markets places. Shopkeers and buyers are urged to strictly follow the SOP while selling and buying goods, PTFC-19 said.
People are also made aware to wear face mask, maintain physical distancing of 6 feet and washing hands frequently with soap or use hand sanitizers.
The today’s drive covered Keishampat to Pishum market, Samurou market, Wangoi market, Luxmi Bazar Yumnam Huidrom and Mayang Imphal areas, it said.
During the drive, many people were found not wearing mask in market places and many other were found not wearing the mask properly.
PTFC-19 said their ‘Awareness Campaign’ will further continue and appealed the people to extend their support in the campaign.
