IMPHAL, Oct 29: Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West today allowed prayers of victims’ families and EEVFAM (Extrajudicial Execution Victim Families Association Manipur) for filing protest petitions in connection with the CBI closure report submitted in the Court on the June 18, 2001 incident. The Court fixed November 27 for the next hearing.
The CBI had submitted their closure/final report last month on the ground that no sufficient admissible evidence came on record during their investigation to launch prosecution against the security personnel of CRPF in connection with the June 18, 2001 incident.
It may be noted that 14 persons were killed and several others were injured when security forces opened fire at protesters demonstrating against the ceasefire pact signed between the Government of India and NSCN(IM) on June 18, 2001.
The prayers of the victims’ families and EEVFAM were allowed by the Court after hearing objections filed by them through video conference.
The Court then fixed November 27 for the next hearing.
