Labourers claim wages not yet distributed from 2015

Thoubal,Nov9:  Labourers who were engaged for constructing a retaining wall of Old Thumbuthong and blacktopping of the road linked to the bridge for the Prime Minister Narendra Modi visit to the State for participating the opening ceremony of The Sangai Festival in 2015 claimed that their wages have not yet been distributed by the contractor and sub-contractor concerned.
The labourers urged the State Government to look into the matter to ensure they get their wages at the earliest.
Speaking to media persons during a press meet held today at Heirok Part -I Ipukom, the head mistry of the work, Ningthoujam Sanayaima stated that about 60 workers were engaged for the work at the rate of Rs 300 for evening workers and Rs 1,000 for night workers.
According to the head mistry, the contractor of the work is one Laishram Mani from Nagamapal  and the subcontractor is from  Heirok Part -I identified as Moirangthem Sharat.
Saying that the works completed on time due to hard work of the labourers, Sanayaima lamented that the workers have not been paid for their works till date.
On meeting the Executive Engineer of the PWD, it is learnt that all the sanction amounts for the works have been disbursed, he said and appealed to the State Government and the department concerned to extend their helping hands to the poor labourers who have been deprived of their rightful wages.
