JIRIBAM, Nov 14 :
The Joint Action Committee on Tribal Land Rights Protection, Jiribam and Tamenglong has appealed to the State Government to arrange an audience with the tribal leaders of Jiribam and Tamenglong districts at the earliest to resolve all the long pending land related issues.
The Joint Action Committee on Tribal Land Rights Protection (JAC TLRP) Jiribam and Tamenglong District stated that the attempt to implement the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006 in Jiribam and Tamenglong areas should be withdrawn and the JAC TLRP wants an assurance from the State Government that the FRA (Forest Rights Act) 2006 will not be implemented in Jiribam and Tamenglong District of Manipur.
The encroachment by the Forest Department in tribal village land areas in Jiribam & Tamenglong District  should be stopped.
The JAC TLRP added that the State Government must restore the payment of Hill House Tax by Tribal villages in Jiribam which was stopped without a reason in 2017.
The tribal leaders of Jiribam District had many times requested the State Government to resolve the tribal land issues in Jiribam in favour of tribal land rights and so far no concrete steps have been taken by the State Government towards that end.
The Joint Action Committee on Tribal Land Rights Protection, Jiribam and Tamenglong District was instituted on the 30th October, 2020 by all the tribal CSOs of Jiribam and Tamenglong Districts in a joint meeting.
The JAC TLRP, Jiribam and Tamenglong, has been mandated by all the tribal organisations of Jiribam and Tamenglong to take initiative for the restoration and protection of tribal land rights of Jiribam and Tamenglong.
The JAC TLRP further stated that the lack of response to the genuine problems of the tribal people of Jiribam and Tamenglong would make it necessary for the JAC TLRP to initiate mass agitation/bandh soon.
