NE Tourism Policy discussed at NEC meet

The North East Eastern Council (NEC) met different stakeholders and discussed North East Tourism Policy.
NEC organised a Consultative meet on Tourism chaired by the member of NEC, Prof Biman Kr. Dutta, in the presence of member, NEC, Air Marshal Anjan Kumar Gogoi and Secretary, NEC, K Moses Chalai. The meeting which was attended by the major Tourism practitioners in the North East India Region focussed on identifying area, needing attention for development of the Tourism sector.
Secretary, NEC, highlighted how NEC and the Government of India had initiated a slew of measures to enhance the image of the North Eastern Region as a great tourism destination.
He also emphasised on taking constructive steps to increase the number of local as well as international tourists. The consultative meet deliberated on sector’s potential and various problems requiring special efforts for redressal, such as marketing platform etc in order to help tourism become a catalyst of economic growth and employment generation in the North East region.
In a statement NEC stated, “The need of an exclusive North East Tourism Policy was discussed during the session. During the meet, professional training of Tourist Guides was also discussed to ensure the convenience of local and international tourists. The representatives of World Bank shared how Tourism in India is doing and gave specific inputs for the improvement of Tourism sector in North East India. ” Secretary NEC emphasized that the need of the hour was for a collective effort, to improve connectivity and add convenience for the tourists, ultimately creating the right ambience for growth of tourism.
