Wadi project launched at Ukhrul

Ukhrul, Feb 21: Dr KJ Satyasai, General Manager / OIC  NABARD Manipur region today launched the Integrated Tribal Development Project ( Wadi) at Paorei village community hall, Ukhrul.
The project covers six villages of Ukhrul district namely  Paorei, Phungcham, Varangalai, Chingjaroi Khullen, Chingjaroi CV, and Chingjaroi Khonou.
The project will support the plantation of exotic fruits avocado and gooseberry in the select villages.
According to reports, over 12,000 avocado saplings and 9,600 gooseberry saplings would be planted in 200 acres of land this year.
Dr Satyasai, who attended the programme as the chief guest, expressed that the department would utilize the resources available in the right channel to improve the income generation of the farmers.
Dy General Manager NABARD Dr R Ravi Babu also enlightened the rural farmers about the NABARD intervention to elevate the economic condition of tribal people.
Project Wadi is a long term project as nurturing of the plants would take at least five years to bear fruit.
200 families have been identified for the project.
Project Director, Ukhrul UDCRMS, Lily Rose Jajo mentioned that WADI project is a systematic approached to generate sustainable livelihood income to improve the living standard of the farmers.
As part of the launching programme, Dr Satyasai and Dr Ravi planted avocado sapling.
The project funded by National Bank for Agriculture & Rural Development would be implemented by Ukhrul District Resource Management Society (UDCRMS) while technical support would be incorporated from KVK & Agriculture Department of Ukhrul.
