IE cops seize IED weighing 3 Kgs

IMPHAL, Feb 21: Imphal East district commandos arrested an RPF/PLA cadre along with an IED weighing around 3 kilograms today.
Displaying the seized IED and the arrested individual before media persons at Imphal East SP conference hall today evening, Haobijam Jogeshchandra (SP Imphal East) said that upon receiving information about the presence of UG members in and around JNIMS and Porompat crossing area, a team of Imphal East commandos, under the supervision of Mayengbam Roni (Additional SP Operation, Imphal East) rushed to the spot and arrested one Yengkhom Surjit alias Ibobi (51) s/o Suresh of Soibam Leikai Ahongei Leirak.
During preliminary interrogation, Surjit revealed that he joined PLA/ RPF in 1989 and is presently working under the command of self styled Major Robertson of the outfit.
Surjit further revealed that he had a powerful IED, which was handed over to him by Robertson through one Lourembam Bubhuneshwar, at his residence.
Upon his disclosure, the commando team recovered the IED, the SP mentioned, adding that as the explosive was found completely assembled, the commando team immediately took it to the nearest paddy field at Khurai Ningthoubung and the IED was dismantled by a State bomb disposal squad team.
The SP informed that the powerful IED had four numbers of TNT sled, two electronic detonators, eight pencil batteries and one remote controlled IED mechanism, and added that the arrested individual, along with the seized explosive device, were handed over to Porompat PS for taking up necessary legal action.
Mention may be made that Lourembam Bubhuneshwar, who allegedly handed over the IED to Surjit, was arrested by a team of Imphal West commandos along with an IED on February 17.
