Verdict on Mar 20

IMPHAL, Feb 21: Session Judge, Imphal West, today, fixed March 20 for announcing the judgment in connection with the alleged rape and murder case of a junior research fellow of RIMS, following the final hearing of the eight year long trial.
Today, all the accused, identified as Kshetrimayum Biju alias Holendro s/o Ibungo of Irilbung Thongkhong, Thoudam Jiban s/o (L) Thoiba of Irilbung Machahal Leikai and Thoijam Thesis alias Aboi alias James s/o T Jugindro of Thambalkhong Sabal Leikai were present before the Court as they were produced from Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa, for the final hearing.
It may be mentioned that the victim, a Junior Research Fellow of Pathology Department, RIMS, was found brutally murdered (with bruises on her neck and body) in a canal at Wangkhei Loumanbi Loukol, near Irilbung PS, Imphal East, on April 5, 2013.
All the accused were arrested a few days after the incident, by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) which was specially constituted to solve the case and arrest the culprits involved.
After the investigation, the IO of the case submitted the charge sheet before the Court and charges were farmed against the three accused on September 20, 2013.
Deposition of prosecution witnesses started from December 5, 2013 and concluded on September 1, 2017.
