IMPHAL, Feb 22: The 10th Medical Society Conference (MESOCON), 2020 was held at RIMS Jubilee Hall, Lamphelpat today, on the theme – Cancer: Challenges Ahead”.
RIMS Director Professor A Santa Singh, Medical Superintendent Ch Arunkumar Singh and former Head of Department, Surgery, Professor SN Prasad, graced the function as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
In his speech, Professor Santa underscored the importance of research and publication works in determining the ranking of medical institutions in the country.
Saying that research is an important component for RIMS in the all-India ranking of medical institutions, he said that the number of research works and publications matters a lot in the countrywide ranking of medical institutions.
Further maintaining that All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and PGI may be on the top spots in India when it comes to research works, Santa said that RIMS happens to be one of the best medical institutions from North East in research works.
He also asserted that RIMs could surpass the medical institutions both in North East and Eastern Zone in the countrywide ranking of best medical institutions.
Claiming that Medical Society, RIMS, set up in 1977, has been growing by leaps and bounds and gaining more popularity, the Director expressed that the said medical society can also published a good quality journal.
On the other hand, Professor Arunkumar claimed that Medical Society, RIMS is an essential and integral organization of RIMS.
He stated that it acts as an important platform for scientific activities of the teaching staff in RIMS in terms of research papers.
Arunkumar went on to say that the Medical Society, RIMS has also been giving ample opportunities to the faculties of the institute to interact with faculties of other medical institutions in the country.
It is also a platform to serve humanity by means of endeavour aimed at achieving the highest place in medical education, arts, science, ethics and health care for the people of the State, the Medical Superintendent added.
A journal of Medical Society, RIMS and a souvenir of MESOCON, 2020 were also released during the function.
