Ongoing Class X, Class XII exams: Crucial stages

    23-Feb-2020
Class X and Class XII board examinations are on. Two of the most crucial stages in the life of a student and while students appearing for the Class X examinations will look to pursue their higher education from some of the more reputed schools in Imphal as well as in other parts of the country, for those appearing for the Class XII examinations it will be a totally different ball game. For those who have taken up Science, many would have set their eyes on cracking NEET and pursue an MBBS course, while others would be seeking to crack the JEE and pursue a course in an engineering stream of their choice. Professional courses,  this is what many students from the Science stream would be looking forward to. Parents and guardians too would surely be looking forward to their children and wards pursuing a professional course after their Class XII for this is about job security. For those who have taken up Commerce and Arts, the aim would obviously be to score as much as possible so that they can get admission in one of the more reputable colleges across the country. Strategic stage, no doubt and how the students fare in their Class XII examinations will go a long way in deciding which career path they take up. Apart from the unsavoury news of question papers of the ongoing Class XI examinations being leaked, the Class X and Class XII examinations are proceeding without much hiccup other than some students being expelled for using unfair means including impersonation.
After Class XII what, is a question that must be dogging the minds of many parents and guardians and this is where it becomes important for all concerned to keep the interest of the young students in mind. Makes no sense in convincing the young students to go in for a course just to satisfy the ambition of the parents and guardians. This is where communication between the young students and their parents and elders becomes important. On the other hand it is also important to keep in mind that there are now career counselling centres which can be contacted. A professional approach to understand what  a young student would want to do later in life is perhaps the need at this stage. For those appearing for the Class X examinations, the focus will obviously be to score well and get admission in one of the more reputable schools in Imphal. This is where it becomes a little worrying to note that almost all the reputed schools are located at Imphal. So for parents and guardians who do not stay in Imphal, it is not only about admission in the school of their choice but is also about hunting for a hostel for their child. As in the past, one can expect the different schools to offer freebies to the toppers in the Class X examinations and the extent that schools go to woo the toppers can be simply astounding. Why not make a student who has scored a decent 75 percent in the Class X examinations a topper material in Class XII ? This is what should be the ultimate test of any school.
