Khongjom Parva festival kicks off

IMPHAl, Feb 23 : Kanglei Sheishaklon Shindamshang (KSS) kicked off a two day State level festival of Khongjom Parva under the aegis of Sangeet Natak Akademi, Ministry of Culture, GoI, at Nongpok Ingkhol, Pureiromba Leikai, Konung Mamang today.
Manipur University of Culture guest faculty (Manipur Sahitya Parishad Sangeet Bhushan awardee) Leihaorungbam Bidur graced the function as the chief guest while Kanglei Sheishaklon Shindamshang president as well as International, National and State Kala Akademi awardee Khumanthem Sundari attended as the president and Assistant Professor , Manipur University of Culture as well as Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar awardee Dr Manju Elangbam as the guest of honour.
Khongjom Parva were presented by Th Budha (Loktak Nganeiba), N Labangini (Kao Phaba), Ksh Babita Chanu (Manipur Sheitharon) and N Medhapati (Khongjom Lan) during the function.
Speaking on the occasion, chief guest L Bidur said that celebrating Khongjom Parva festival is significant as the art form was often times  performed during ceremonies/occasions in the past.
The popularity of Khongjom Parva has decreased with the change in time which is unfortunate, he added.
Khongjom Parva portrays stories of the past, the history and customs of Manipur, he said while urging all to take part in celebrating and promoting the art form.
