A Beautiful Mind

‘What day is it today?’
‘Friday.’
‘Ah, there you are!’
Friday
The day of the week
After Thursday and before Saturday.
Good old Tom!
Sunday is a long way off.
Today is Friday
And nothing’s going right for me the whole day.
Ah, what a mess!
I’m dog tired.
It’s been a long day.
Strange to say,
By the end of the day
I’m tired but happy,
I really do.
Life comes alive
After the nightmare of
A long, long day.
My Fridays and Sundays
These have got nothing to do with
That thing called religion.
I’m not very religious,
In every sense of the word.
No.
I’m not.

The evening begins with a Scotch and soda
And soft music in the background.
In my dream
I’m sitting in a theatre watching a play –
A parody of modern life.
I feel at peace with the world.

A friend ended up a drunkard
And died of liver cirrhosis.
He’d left his life on earth.
A cigarette end,
That’s me.
Husband of a lovely wife
Father of four children
A steady job
A small family, including Adonis my pet dog
To take care of
A for apple, B for ball
e=mc2
My life’s spiritual black hole
Love, death, etc.
Not the end of the world
Not the end of the world.
I’ve begun to keep
Oh, a philosophical detachment.
‘Do you know what life is?’
‘Hell, no. I don’t.’
The more I try to understand it
The more wonderful it becomes
And that’s the beauty of life.
