Shillong, Feb 6: East Shillong MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh has urged upon the people of Meghalaya to unite and fight for the fulfillment of their aspirations. Lyngdoh made this appeal on Thursday while attending a public meeting organized by former legislator Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit at Students’ Field, in the Jaiaw locality of Shillong.
“I am here today because it is high time for the people of the state to be united as one with an objective to fight for our rights and make sure the aspirations of the public are fulfilled,” Lyngdoh who was the only legislator to attend this public meeting said.
It may be noted here that Basaiawmoit organized this public meeting where he resolved to launch his movement known as ‘Iada ia Ka Ri’ (Protect The Land). This movement which he termed as a ‘revolution’ seeks to address a number of issues faced by the people of the state.
In this context, Lyngdoh said, “In this present situation there is a need for everyone, be it political parties or NGOs, to set aside their individual flags and come together as one under one umbrella to fight for the cause and interest of the people of the state.” Referring to the call for the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya and also the opposition to the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act 2019 in the state, Lyngdoh said, “There is a need for the indigenous community of the state to be united before venturing to Delhi as there is a need to have one voice and demand on this issue.”
