AIZAWL, Mar 16: Mizoram’s apex student body, Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) on Monday slammed the State Government of Mizoram on the long pending border dispute with neighbouring Assam.
The student body also warned that it would construct a resting shed at Zophai area near Bairabi town on the Mizoram-Assam border "if Assam continues to violate the status quo being in placed".
Speaking to reporters at a press conference here on Monday, MZP president B. Vanlaltana said the state government was not worrying about the border issue and "has been inaction to resolve the long pending dispute". He also said that the student organisation had submitted important documents related to the border issue to the state government as instructed by the Core Committee constituted by the government in 2018 to study the border issue.
“We are disappointed as the government failed to take any sincere effort to resolve the border dispute,” he rued.
The MZP president also blamed a masjid committee in Assam for allegedly constructing a mosque near Bairabi town despite the order to maintain status quo along the disputed land.
“We will also construct a resting shed at Zophai area if Assam continues to breach the status quo,” he asserted.
Vanlaltana also asked the state government to "remain strong" in order to resolve the border dispute.
